It was about opinions too, there wasn't one definite answer, and I don't expect one here either. Btw, I was reading another topic here on what people perceive as "Spiessigkeit", in the UK, US, "typisch deutsche Spiessigkeit" etc., which was rather interesting. Klischeetypen sind wohl die "jocks" in Filmen ueber High School-Aussenseiter (ausser, dass die meistens nicht nur cocky, sondern auch dumm sind). Ich erwartete also jemanden, der, wenn auch vielleicht an sich keine "schlechte" Person, Neigungen zur Selbstverliebtheit und zum Sich-Praesentieren ("in your face" heisst das, glaube ich, auf Englisch), vorlaut, manchmal ganz lustig, manchmal doch grenzwertig-arschig und oberflaechlich. removed Collocations, detached Collocations, standoffish, unapproachable, remote Collocations, unresponsive, reserved Collocations, distant Collocations. Long story short, eine Person, die ich bis dato nicht ein Wort hatte sagen hoeren, wurde als "cocky" beschrieben. Webster's New World Aloof is defined as at a distance, either physically or mentally. Ich brauche eure Hilfe bei vermeintlichen Synonymen (nach meiner Kenntnis sind es keine, aber ich bin kein English native speaker) - hoffentlich bin ich im richtigen Subforum.
